Why Support ADDHU-CYCA Center for orphans and vulnerable children
HIV/AIDS is responsible for making vast numbers of children across Africa orphans. The plight of orphans and vulnerable children is indeed great.
Most parents suffering from HIV/AIDS cannot afford to hire an individual to nurse them. They therefore force their children to drop out of school and care for them. Nursing a sick parent is really difficult to the children. Since AIDS has no cure, the child is aware that the parent will surely die. The trauma of waiting for that day is unbearable.
Then comes the stigmatization, other children will not play with the orphaned child as they think they may contract the virus. Most people in society will regard the AIDS orphans with suspicion and will have nothing to do with them.
They are left vulnerable as they are unable to fend for themselves and if they have one remaining parent, the strain is too much on this existing parent as s/he may have many children that all need to be taken care of. This may lead to the orphans regularly sleeping on an empty stomach.
The orphaned child is then denied his/her rights. He/She is not fed, sheltered, clothed, protected, and educated. They will no longer have the right to play like a normal child as they have to work in order to supplement an income or if both parents have passed away, the orphaned child becomes the sole bread winner taking care of his/her other siblings. This is really taxing!
We also serve vulnerable children, those whose parents are still alive but are not able to care for their children as they are financially disabled.
Because of no hope for the future, some of these children begin to engage in prostitution, crime or substance abuse to get a way out of their desperate situation and make some money to feed themselves and the rest of the family. This is totally un acceptable.
However, at ADDHU-CYCA Center for orphaned and vulnerable children, losing a parent(s) or being vulnerable is not the end of life and a future for the children. They are served with a safe and secure environment in which they develop. They have the right to shelter, clothing, food, education, other basic amenities and emotional support.
Please join us in serving these children and providing hope for a better future. We only support 40 children but through your support we will be able assist many more.
